The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) was developed at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) by a group of experts from industry, government, and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at CMU. A CMMI model provides detailed guidance for improving processes that meet the strategic goals of a business or organization. The Services model provides a framework for the delivery of services within a company and to their external customers.
The company also decided to pursue the optional SSD process area. Chris Brandell, Trowbridge’s COO said, “We architect and implement complex, and tailored service systems for our clients. In our initial CMMI implementation discussions we felt compelled to ensure our development process was as robust as possible, according to industry best practices.”
Successful appraisal to the optional SSD process area means Trowbridge takes special consideration to develop and analyze stakeholder requirements ensuring their work is aligned with expectations. The now externally validated Trowbridge process also ensures the best selection, design, and integration of their innovative service systems, and ensures verification and validation of the implementation.
